The D-M-E Plastics University
D-M-E
has formed a partnership with Ferris State University, a premier
provider of applied plastics instruction, to develop a unique,
state-of-the-art training program called the D-M-E PIastics University.
D-M-E
PIastics University is a curriculum of eight mold technology courses
that advances from the basic principles of mold print reading
and mold base technologies to more advanced topics in mold design
and function.
The
curriculum consists of:
Mold Print Reading This course provides the foundation necessary to read and communicate with mold designers or mold builders using mold prints. |
Mold Base Technology An introduction to the types of mold bases used in injection molding. The different functions of mold plates and mold components is presented. |
Mold/Cavity Materials This course covers the most important aspects of the selection of steels for mold making. The topics of material testing, steel processing, and standards are addressed. |
Runner/Gate Design A course on the techniques of getting melted plastics to the part cavity using runners, gates, and vents. |
Mold Finishing/Polish An overview of the processes, techniques, and equipment used for mold finishing, polishing, and texturing. |
Mold Heating/Cooling A course on mold cooling and heating techniques used in injection molds. |
Mold Action A course on the methods, components, and systems used to create and control actions within molds for part ejection or mold plate control. |
Injection Molding An overview of the injection molding process covering injection molding machine components, support equipment, process control. thermoplastic materials, and the injection molding cycle. |
